CCW SinC Chapter- July Meeting

A Message from our Chapter President

All,

Our next chapter meeting is scheduled for Sunday, July 16 at the Alafaya Library Branch (Alafaya Public Library, 12000 E Colonial Dr., Orlando, FL 32826) from 4:15-5:15 pm.  This meeting will be an hour as it was last month due to their summer activities schedule.  This means that there will be no guest speaker at this meeting due to the time constraints.  We do have other chapter business to discuss, such as what progress we have made regarding business status, banking information, and marketing/communication channels in the way of promotion of the chapter to include obtaining guest speakers or site visits for the chapter.

It had been discussed at previous meetings about obtaining a chapter booth at this year’s Tampa Bay Times Festival of Reading.  This is a large event and one I have gone to for the past two years.  This year I have submitted an application in the chapters name for the event and submitted a grant to the national organization to pay for our attendance.  They have already reviewed the application and contacted me about adding in marketing swag for our chapter as well to our submission.  I would like to discuss those suggestions at our meeting.

Regarding the actual event, the festival is November 11 on the USF campus in St. Petersburg.  All chapter members are invited to participate whether being present at the event or by sending items to represent them if they cannot make it.    I send out a follow up email after our meeting outlining the event information, details of what the chapter discussed regarding chapter swag, as well as participation in any form for the upcoming event.

Please check our Facebook and WordPress pages for updates to the chapter as we continue to grow.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.  Hope to see you next week or hear from you soon.  Kat Lopez, Chapter President

We Have SinC Lift Off!

Our first official SinC chapter meeting is in the can.  The Citrus Crime Writers, led by President Kat Lopez, met at the Maitland Public Library on Sunday, March 26th.  The enthusiastic group discussed plans for the coming year, such as holding monthly meetings, connecting with other author groups, reaching out to potential guest speakers, possible writers’ tours and upcoming writer conferences, and finalizing the chapter bank account and other organizational issues.  A free book exchange capped off the meeting.  Meeting minutes are being drafted and will be posted soon.  The next meeting is planned for Sunday, April 23, at the Maitland Public Library, including a presentation on “The Basics of Copyright Law for Writers.”  More details will follow in the coming weeks. Check out a few pics from our first official meeting.  What a good-looking group of crime writers!

CCW President Chosen for Authors in Schools Program

716rbgeiqpl__ux250_CCW President, Kathleen (“Kat”) Lopez, has been selected as a featured author in the Amelia Island Book Festival’s Authors in Schools program in February 2017. She will be one of 21 participating authors–both indie writers and notable authors, such as R. L. Stine.  The program brings published authors to students across each of the 16 Nassau County Public schools.  Corporate and private donations along with grant funding help promote this program year-to-year, help buy the books of the selected authors, and gives students a chance to meet the authors.  The students keep the books as well as memories of the special event conducted at their school. Kat will be meeting with the students from Hilliard Middle-High School.  Congratulations on this terrific honor, Kat!

For more information about the program or the festival itself, check out their website at http://www.ameliaislandbookfestival.org/.
